School slaps down Democrats

By Corey Friedman

You can’t be a good Christian and a Democrat, a private evangelical university told its students when it refused to recognize a student club with ties to the national Democratic Party.

Liberty University, the Lynchburg, Va., school founded by the fundamentalist Rev. Jerry Falwell, derecognized the College Democrats because school officials consider Democratic policies that allow abortion and promote gay rights incongruous with the school’s Christian mission.

“While those who are members of the LU Democratic Club are well intentioned and honorable, the platform and policies of the national Democratic Party and the candidates supported by that party, and thus the student organization itself, are inconsistent with the mission of the University,” Jerry Fallwell Jr., the school’s president, said in a news release.

As a private religious institution, Liberty is not legally bound to allow free speech, expression and association like public, state-funded colleges.

The Foundation for Individual Rights in Education points out that Liberty makes no bones about its conservative Christian culture, and students and parents who even skimmed the school’s literature should have known exactly what they were signing up for.

While the university has no legal obligation to recognize the College Democrats, it does have moral, ethical and even Biblical obligations to do so.

Senate serves up soda tax

By William R. Toler

In an attempt to come up with ways to pay for a nationalized health care system,Senate leaders are bouncing around the idea of a soft drink tax, according to the Wall Street Journal.

In addition to soda, the list of taxable beverages includes energy drinks (Monster), sports drinks (Gatorade), fruit drinks and ready-to-drink teas.

The idea for the excise tax comes from the Center for Science in the Public Interest, a group of health nazis, who believe taxing the sugar-filled beverages will cut down on consumption and, in turn, related health problems such as obesity and diabetes.

School uniforms force conformity

By William R. Toler

School uniforms are one topic that is really wearing on my nerves and liberty-focused mind.

The indoctrination centers known as public schools are rapidly subscribing to the draconian practice of incorporating school uniforms as an enforceable policy.

Why? What happened to the idea of “individuality” that liberals were pushing for a decade ago? Now it’s those same liberals, along with conservatives, supporting the issue of clothing conformity.

The proponents of this preposterous principle claim that uniforms help keep order. They say children learn better when not focused on who’s wearing what; that everyone is equal and no one has anything better than anyone else.

Sykes slaughters sacred cow

By Corey Friedman

Capping a celebration of free speech and its practitioners, the presidential press secretary reinforced the notion that some taboo topics are just off-limits.

Responding to a question about stand-up comic Wanda Sykes’ brutal barbs toward Rush Limbaugh at the White House Correspondents Dinner last week, Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said in a press briefing that the Sept. 11 attacks shouldn’t be referenced in jest.

“I think there are a lot of topics that are better left for serious reflection rather than comedy,” Gibbs said. “I think there’s no doubt that 9/11 is part of that.”

Sykes blistered the conservative blowhard Limbaugh for saying that he hopes the Obama administration fails. “I hope his kidneys fail,” she quipped.

Congress throws penalty flag

By William R. Toler

As if they have nothing better to do, members of the U.S. Congress decided to enter the sports arena again on Friday.

This time, instead of trying to figure out who used “performance enhancing” drugs, our duly elected officials decided they should intervene in the realm of college football.

Some members of Congress believe that the championship should be decided by a playoff system similar to all other collegiate sports instead of the current Bowl Championship Series.

Economy, war aren’t Obama’s fault

By Richard C. Evey
Three-Percent Patriot

Over the past months, all I have heard from the mainstream media and other sources, in particular those that support the RINOs – Republicans In Name Only –  is that AKA is a failure and that he is responsible for the nation’s and the world’s problems.

For those of you who are not sure or are wondering who AKA is, he the person who is living in the White House and claims to be the president. This person has gone by seven, repeat seven, aliases.

He has not proven that he was born in the United States, so I will not acknowledge that this person as the president. I am not sure what his real name is.

But, I digress.
